Identify combined information

A map, regular time and photograph together may reveal more than each alone. Examine starts, finishes, recurring places and identifiable people. Consider titles, comments and meeting points too. This check concerns your own publication, not investigating other people’s routes.

Separate map and activity privacy

Strava Help explains that hiding map starts and finishes does not itself change activity audience. Check the two controls separately. Global and individual-activity settings may both apply: consult current documentation and review already-published activities.

Choose a useful sharing level

Determine what you want to share: effort, memory, route or meeting. A general description may suffice when the precise track adds nothing. For a group, separate public announcement and participant details. Ask relevant people before publishing their photos or habits.

Check after publishing

Review the post from another authorised account or suitable public view. Check map, description, times and comments. A source correction does not retrieve copies already made. Record checked settings to repeat the review after an app change without storing sensitive data in your notes.

Choose the right check for the situation

These editorial pointers help prepare and review your work. Choose the situation matching your content; check current features and conditions in the cited sources before applying it to a service.

Hypothetical example: apply the method

A club wants to describe an outing. It publishes an authorised photo and route summary without participants’ homes. Details of the next meeting remain in the designated group space.

Frequently asked questions

Is hiding the start enough?

Check other information and audience. The map is only one part of the post.

Can I publish a group route?

Check what it reveals and necessary permissions. Participation is not automatically permission to publish.
